10000 Steps to Perfect Weight!

Unless you've been living in a cave you're probably aware of the 10000 steps philosophy!...

Walk this amount of steps per day to stay trim and healthy. If you don't want to send yourself crazy by counting then the easiest way is to use a pedometer.....

Or 10000 steps is about five miles, so you can work it out that way.

And for anyone who suffers from SAD if you take most of those steps outside [rather than on a treadmill, for instance] you'll be getting adequate daylight to keep you happy all year!

10000 steps is a minimum to aim for. 13000 to 15000 really turbo-charges your weight loss.

However, if you haven't been taking much exercise work up to 10000 steps, or more, gradually. Apparently Ms and Mr Average only takes about 3000 steps per day. And you know what can be blamed for this don't you.....

Yes, the car!

Now, this may be a bit extreme for some but recently I sold my car. The walk to my local town is nearly three miles. I kept intending to walk to town but always ended up driving. So I tried an experiment.

For two weeks I didn't use the car ...which meant I had no option but to walk. And guess what...I loved it!

And I sold the car, and instead of feeling trapped as I'd formerly associated with being carless I feel totally liberated. And as an added bonus, richer!

I discovered that once I get over that initial 'Oh, I can't be bothered to walk all that way' feeling, which always had me heading for the car the walk is uplifting,

However, it may be totally impractical, depending on where you live, family obligations, etc to do this. However here are some ways you can easily clock up those steps:

*Park further away from your destination

*Take a walk after meals [also a great digestive aid which in turn is a great slimming aid!]

*Walk to a local shop for bits and bobs rather than always driving farther to the bigger shop. You'll end up spending less anyway, due to petrol costs and the fact you won't be able to buy stuff you could do without 'cos you simply wouldn't be able to carry it!

*If practical just don't take the car on any short journey. Just walk, you'll love it. And so will your waist-line!

*Take stairs instead of lift or escalator.

And if you get the occasional day when you really can't be bothered or just don't get the chance to step, step step, then you can always just Get Fit While You Sit!
