May 2, 2006 12:41 - Two Minute Detox!

Take a flask of hot water to bed with you. If you've used a modern stainless steel flask the water should be nice and warm to hot by morning. When you wake up sit up and luxuriously sip away. It's very cleansing and helps clear impurities from the digestive tract...a great start to your day!

Why not just have a cup of tea first thing instead? Well, as my ayurvedic doctor said "You wouldn't wash your clothes in tea, would you?"

I've been doing this for years [the hot water sipping, not washing my clothes in tea!]. However, I still look forward to my morning tea or coffee, but enjoy it with a clearer conscience [and digestive tract!]

May 4, 2006 12:23 - Get Happy Now!

Research has shown that winning money or receiving a big pay rise can increase happiness, but usually only for a short while. I believe this is because it's not true happiness that's being measured...

Our true happiness never goes away and we only 'miss' it when focusing on outer things to make us happy.

Sure, we can all enjoy outer trappings, but our happiness shouldn't be dependant on them. This attititude can quickly lead to unhappiness.

May 7, 2006 18:14 - Did I turn the iron off?

Does that sound familiar? I saw a very funny cartoon card recently. It showed a woman leaping out of an aeroplane shouting...

"I think I've forgotten to turn the iron off!"

Worrying about this sort of thing when you're away from the house is no laughing matter. It can spoil some perfectly good fun...

And, as you know, in 999 cases out of a 1000 the d**** thing is always turned off...and the door safely locked etc etc.

The problem is that we did it but cannot remember doing it. So a little trick if you know you're leaving the house for a while is to actually speak out loud as you check...

"The iron is off." etc etc.

Sounds simple, but can be a great help, because it can make us more aware of having actually done it...

So instead of sitting there worrying about the iron being on you can worry about what book to read first on the beach!

May 9, 2006 10:10 - Quick easy and Powerful Weight Loss Tip

Often the simplest things are best. The following weight loss tip sounds simple but can be amazingly effective. I have known people lose large amounts of weight, and help purify their systems by simply...

sipping hot water throughout the day. According to Ayurveda [ancient system for keeping body in balance] this helps improve digestion and assimilation of food. It also helps flush out toxins. On top of that it tends to reduce food cravings between meals...

bring on that hot water!

The easiest way to manage sipping hot water throughout the day is to keep a flask of boiled water with you. Try taking a small sip approx every half hour.

Do not underestimate the power of this tip. I have known of people losing large amounts of weight, or their last few pounds doing this.

May 11, 2006 12:32 - Beware of makeup products without UVA protection!

Whoopee...the sun has been out here on The Isle of Skye this week...

What a mood elevator the sun can be, everyone seems to be smiling when I go into town.

Obviously we all know that sun protection is important for safety, but also to keep wrinkles at bay. Most sun protection creams are clearly labelled: Usually we can see the sun protection factor at a glance and the level of UVA protection...

Makeup products are not always labelled so clearly. It's easy to be lulled into a false sense of security via a tinted moisturiser or foundation labelled 15SPF. Same goes for lipstick. However, I've discovered that this doesn't always include UVA protection that blocks the more aging [ageing for UK!] rays...

I like to actually see "UVA/UVB" or "broad spectrum" on the packaging. Before now I've been told by sales assistants that the product in question did indeed have UVA protection, only to find out later that it didn't...

Later is too late!

So personally I prefer to wear an adequately labelled sun protection, product under any makeup or lipstick. In other words, I like to know for sure that it has a high level of UVA protection...

I'm not going to get stressed about wrinkles, but why invite them?!

May 16, 2006 17:38 - Get in Shape For Summer!

I'm sure you want to look your best in your bikini or swimsuit this summer! And for those of you enjoying winter at the moment you probably don't want to look too bulky in all those layers!

A great way to get in shape fast would be to combine these amazing antiaging exercises with these ....

ayurveda for weight loss tips

They may not have worn bikinis in ancient times, when ayurveda first evolved, but they sure new a thing or two about staying in shape!

And, of course, don't forget to walk as much as you can. If you're stepping your 10,000 steps a day you're well on the way to fitness and health.

Whatever you do, enjoy it!

June 2, 2006 09:48 - Have Your Cake and Eat It!

Have your cake and eat it!

Do you find it hard to resist the cake or pudding after a meal out, or at anytime? Try the three bite 'trick'. Apparently it's the first three bites of a new taste that are the most yummy...

That's when the tast buds are saying "Whoopeedoo!" But those taste buds are a tad fickle and they get a bit bored after the first three bites...

Problem is that we often keep eating the gorgeous cake trying to experience anew the pure heaven of those first bites, especially that first one!

And don't worry about waste, worry about waist. Better in the bin/garbage that on the hips. Don't treat yourself as a garbage bin! Never forget the saying...

"A minute on the lips a lifetime on the hips"

Of course, this 'rule' can apply to any 'naughty' food, not just cake. Healthy stuff is different. Don't limit your fruit, veggies and other things that make your body and soul jump for joy. The 'three bite rule' doesn't apply to broccoli...

but it should probably apply to deep fried broccoli fritters!
