October 12, 2006 15:27 - Health awareness is better than illness awareness!
Lately there seem to be endless campaigns to be 'aware' of various illnesses. However, I believe, as do many others, that putting too much attention on illness could create it. Focusing too hard on the possibility of a particlular illness can become an affirmation...
And not a positive one! Far better to put our awareness on health and happiness.
Certainly, ayurveda believes that we can create what we put our attention on. So put your attention on doing all you can to stay healthy...
And, of course, happy!
October 17, 2006 11:52 - Thinking of getting rid of your car?
I've mentioned it before on this site, but a few years a go I decided to get rid of my car. Most people who knew me thought it would be a 'nine day wonder' and I'd soon get fed up and go run screaming towards the nearest car showroom, cheque in hand! Far from it! I actually feel really liberated, not having to pay for and maintain a heap of metal on wheels! Anyway, as a result I'm much healthier [all that walking!] and so is my bank account. I realise that if you live somewhere like Los Angeles not having a car can be very difficult. However, if you live somewhere that has a reasonable public transport system you may have been thinking of 'giving it a go'...
Before 'taking the plunge' I kept my car in the drive but vowed not to use it for two weeks. So I started walking the three miles to town [and back!] and absoluteley loved it. I was amazed at what I'd been missing. All that lovely fresh air and all that exercise!
Admittedly I live in a rural area so the scenery during the walk is really pretty. However, I enjoy walking around cities just as much. Especially when some of the walking is around shops!
If I feel like getting the bus or a cab I do. And on longer journeys I really enjoy taking buses and trains. Its so nice to be able to sit back and relax, rather than focusing on busy roads for hours on end...
Just think of the bus as a very long stretch limo!
October 24, 2006 16:01 - Start a virtuous circle and look your best ever!
The opposite of a vicious circle is a virtuous circle! Sounds like that could be boring, but it's not. Feeling ever better is never boring. As you know the more 'junk' you eat the more of it you want to eat. This can result in you getting further and further away from that 'ideal shape' you want to be.
So get started on that virtous circle. Say no to biscuits [cookies], cake, fast food, ready meals, high fat content foods etc. Say yes to healthy food and exercise. Once you start it's easy, your virtuous circle has begun. It becomes so easy to say yes to the healthy food and yes to exercise you enjoy.
As with most other things the hardest part is getting started!

November 4, 2006 13:36 - Cheer yourself up with toast in the mornings!!
Can you be bit grumpy in the mornings and do you like toast? Strange combination for a question! I recently purchased a Mickey Mouse Toaster and it's great fun for big kids and little kids alike.
It plays a tune when the toast is ready and even puts Mickeys's face onto the toast. So if you want to brighten up the mornings click on the toaster and check it out...
But I'll warn you you can't switch off that tune, at least you can't on mine, so there's so making a sneaky bit of toast in the night!
Of course you'll only be using it to put nice healthy brands of bread in. Here's a recipe for yeast free breadif you want to avoid the bloated tummy yeast can sometimes cause.
