Banishing 'The Blues'
by Janet Butler Male
What do you do to feel happy if you're feeling 'blue'? How do you chase away that cloudy dull feeling and feel sunny and optimistic again?
Are you in the mood that you could read 'Pollyanna' and smile, or do you feel like flinging a book about someone who is cheerful, no matter what, across the room?
Well, some days, if you haven't had a 'wallow' for a while it's great to have a 'duvet day', with a trashy novel for company.
But, obviously we can't do that every time we're fed up, so what are the best 'quick fixes'
So how to pull yourself out of the doldrums....
Here are some of my faves.
1. Meditate. yes, I know I'm boring, always going on about meditation! But I believe the right one is the most effective mood-lifter in the world. If you live near enough, come and visit me at 'In the Pink' and learn the amazingly effective
POWER Method©.
If you are too far away for a visit then you'll be pleased to hear it is now available as
The POWER Method© ebook.
2. Put on fave sounds and boogie around the room
4. Or take advantage of that gym membership!
3. Get outside and go for a walk, preferably towards a cafe that sells a good cappuccino!
4. Sit in the cafe with a glossy and/or daft magazine. No newspapers please. Too depressing!
5.If you're a 'Facebook' member go onto facebook and see you're are not the only one who is fed-up. There would not be such an avalanche of inane comments if everyone was "having a fabulous day every day Dahling!" No-one would have the time!
6. Treat yourself to a bit of choccy (a bit, I said, not a whole family bar!)
7. Give yourself a treat you can afford or plan a treat for later on in the day. A always enjoy reruns of old faves like Mister Ed, Dharma & Greg and The Gilmore Girls. Last night I resorted to an old Dallas. It was fab. I accompanied it with peanut M&M's!
8. Phone a cheerful upbeat friend. Do not phone any misery-mongers when you feel gloomy! It may be tempting to share your woe with a doom and gloom expert, but ,trust me, you will end up feeling worse!
I apologise for stating the obvious in this 'blogaforum'. There are obviously infinite ways to boost our spirits (without resorting to them, bottled or other-worldly!)
