Help for Depression.
Are you suffering from depression? If so, this page will,hopefully,help...
Obviously there are many different levels of feeling depressed. They range from feeling mildly ‘fed-up’ to horrendously miserable. People who have never experienced deep depression are often unsympathetic to those who do. They honestly believe it is just a matter of ‘pulling your socks up'... Well, if it were that easy nobody would stay depressed. And if you’re really miserable it can be a humungous task to even pull your socks up[or stockings or tights!] There are many reasons for depression. One is sometimes due to the media instilling us with high expectations. We are bombarded with images of the ‘perfect life’ and often feel ours doesn’t measure up. I can assure you that most of those being portrayed as having the 'perfect life' are often miserable themselves. How many times have you looked upon ‘the perfect couple’ in a glossy mag...only to hear of their break-up a short time later? The best way to avoid disatisfaction from a 'less than perfect’ life is to realise it is an illusion and that true happiness comes from within. As the gurus have said for centuries...perfection is not found outside. Only inside. A wonderfully easy way to enhance inner happiness is meditation. Try this free easy meditation technique on this site. Another reason for depression is not being yourself. If you’re not ‘being true to yourself’ you can feel unhappy. Not being 'true to yourself' can be as simple as playing a sport you loathe to please someone else. Or it can be as as serious as studying or working at something you hate. If you ever saw 'Dead Poets Society' you'll remember the tragedy of the 'would be actor'commiting suicide because his father was opposed to his acting. He took his son out of school to send him to military school and the boy shot himself. Looked at with detachment this is just not logical. He was caught up in a'black moment' and didn't wait for it to pass. He was young. He could have done what he'd wanted as soon as he was old enough. He could even have studied or practiced acting at military school in his spare time. He might have met a fellow future actor, or director, who'd also been sent there against his will. He'd have been better off running away... But his judgement was, quite literally, clouded. Always wait for those clouds to pass and I promise you that they will! Doing something to keep someone else happy is often a recipe for disster. The more you are happy within yourself, by being true to yourself, the more you will make those around you happy. Look within, and ask what is right for you. The answer will come. The 'wrong' answer normally creates something like a 'sick' feeling or a stomach knot. the 'right' thing or answer usually 'bubbles up' and feels exciting or 'just right'. It is normal to be a bit ‘down’ from time to time. As normal as passing clouds. The sun is never out all the time. We wouldn’t appreciate it in the same way if it was. Just ask someone who lives near or on the equator! Accepting this makes dark clouds easier to bear. So instead of getting ‘caught up’ and trying to analyse passing bad spells try and just be a casual observer. And watch them pass and enjoy the sun when it comes out again. And it will!
