Is breakfast a myth?
by Janet Butler Male
We've been told from as long back as we can remember that we MUST eat breakfast. Why? Because either we wouldn't be able to concentrate in the morning, or our metabolism might slow down...
to tortoise level!
How many of us have felt guilt and worried about not eating our brekkers? How many of us have rushed out the door, piece of toast in hand, as a 'better than nothing option.
Well, the ancient health system, Ayurveda, has never been 'big on breakfast'. It's a case of have it if you feel like it and don't have it if you don't!
Anyway there are many of the opinion that not eating breakfast can actually enhance, rather than slow down weight loss. This is because it continues the 'fasting' phase for longer. Insulin is not being stimulated, so fat cannot be stored. And glucagon comes into play, which helps the fat burning...
And when you do eat your brunch, lunch or whatever the metabalism zooms into overdrive to grab hold of all those nutrients.
I have been trying the 'no brekky' approach for a short while. With breakfast I was starving by mid-morning but without breakfast can easily (ish!) carry on until lunch with very few hunger pangs..
Oh, and yes, a slightly important point. I am definitely finding it easier to lose weight.
You'll horrify all those 'conventional wisdom' and 'orthodox practice' supporters with this.
