Overcome Your Weight Loss Plateau
Are you at a weight loss plateau? If you are I agree it's very annoying, but it can be overcome. First of all make sure you're not aiming at some unfeasibly low weight... That could be unhealthy for your body type... Your body knows what is best for you and it may just be desperately trying to keep you at its 'best weight' However, if you know you really could do with losing some more weight then here are a few 'tricks' that have conquered a weight loss plateau for myself and others: Don't stick to a low calorie diet day in and day out. Your metabolism may just slow down. Try tricking it with a higher calorie day approx two days a week. For example, three days lower calorie, one day higher calorie, three days lower calorie etc... As a rough guide if you're eating 1400 calories on your 'low' days you could perhaps increase that to 1800 on your 'high' days. However, that's just approximate and depends on your weight and daily activity level. The higher calorie days may also save your sanity! Some people swear by alternate day dieting. Diet today, feast tomorrow: Always something to look forward to - and it probably isn't the diet day! There is a possibility, if you are not losing weight, that you have become insulin resistant. If this is the case, try lowering your carbs. Maybe stick to 60g of carbs a day and see if that helps... Check out my low carb page to find out more. Or check out how, in the 18860's, William Banting overcame a plateau that had lasted about twenty years. Worse, the less he seemed to eat, and the more he exercised the more he gained. Sound familiar to anyone? Some people, particularly body builders swear by carb cycling. That is usually three days of ultra low carb, followed by a more carby day. And so on. Another trick many use, and it works for me, is doing a few 15-24 hour fasts a week. My preference is to eat dinner, then nothing until at least 1pm the next day. This method is known as intermittent fasting. Good luck with breaking your weight loss plateau!
